HR department is considered as the backbone of any organisation, as trends keep changing they are now more challenged to acquire new ways of recruiting; also keeping in mind the hiring practices needs to be aligned with overall business goals of their organisation. Hence functions of sourcing, hiring, training, motivating and maintaining a skilled workforce are of decisive importance for any organisation.

And so the role of Human resources is undergoing a massive change which demands working closely with the Operations Manger.Due to this the HR department is now a very important part of the organisation as it aligns the organisation priorities with recruitment and employee engagement strategies, but now HR managers have to work very hard, more than ever before, to understand recruitment trends. With the changing market, skills, economy etc. the recruitment trends are also changing every year depending on the need though if not faster which is in sharp contrast with the situation in the past, when hiring patterns would remain same for years together. The recruitment process is considered key to the success of a company. Recruitment is the process of attracting and encouraging potential employees to apply for a position, while selection is the process of making fair and relevant assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of applicants with the intention to hire them. Therefore companies would be more than interested on identifying methods to help them hire the most skilled and talented employees in the market.

A few trends that are noticeable in the hiring patterns are :

Social media

Social media is now inextricably a platform into all aspects of life, making individuals more social than ever before. It has become a strategic tool in recruitment process. The social media has opened up new paths of engagement and exchange of information within people. As social media technology continues to change and becomes more widespread, it gives an exciting opportunity for the recruitment industry. So how does the screening happen with the availability of potential employees on various social platforms for example Job portals, Facebook, twitter linkedin, and  the possibility of identifying and attracting them through these platforms cannot be debated. And hence this has made social media a definite sourcing channel for large number of organisations.According to a recent study by MeritTrac and SHRM, about 80% of organisations have already adopted social media as their platform for profiling tools and online simulations in the near future. All of us use social media in our daily lives and hence we leave our footprints in this channel and so the amount of data available about the prospective candidates is huge. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning tools play a major role as they have the capability to identify patterns and make inferences about abilities, interest levels and fitment of potential candidates. Since Social media is a large platform it could be a very powerful tool for a company to advertise jobs their jobs, and create a competitive advantage since it can reach a large number of appropriate candidates.

Just-in-time hiring

This is often a more cost-effective and flexible alternative to hiring a new, long-term employee and burdening the company with more labor than it needs.

Just-in-time staffing is a lean, fast-paced approach to recruitment, where companies rely on agencies to provide them with the right amount of temporary labor to cover their current staffing needs.Every organisation is keen on reducing inventory cost’ of talent. The managers give strict instructions to the HR department that hiring should be done for a specific job/ assignment as and when it is required. This concept will surely impact existing campus hiring approaches as mass hiring is a complete No here!

Skills and certifications

With the the changing demand it is very obvious that there will be a change in supply, the supply dynamics in hiring, talent-sourcing teams will be more focused on sifting through talent to identify the right one.Now hiring process will be more efficient with the growing competition organisations will prefer candidates with reliable skill and certifications. And its very true that specific skill or certifications showcase a certain skill level that can beat out the biggest competition. They also help you build valuable skills that will prove the claims stated on your resume and hence prove your ability at work.

Therefore end-to-end recruitment process of a candidate is tedious, and has indeed become a nightmare for candidates .Big Data analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are creating a major colossal shift in the way recruitment will be handled in the future. However, even with all these changes, technology will not be able to replace human resource departments.
